Throwback Thursday - The Sequel - By Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

So it's that time again Woo-hoo Throw Back Thursday!

So, here I am a c. (very) sweet sixteen!

And, I say c./circa because this was prior to attending The Arts Educational Schools that I was fortunate to apply to (as well as Italia Conti) and successfully be offered places, however to choose the former, from 16-19, completing a three year course, at this prestigious Stage School and attaining a Diploma in Musical Theatre studies.

At The King School of Dancing (I express my Thanks, again, to the brilliant Dance Teachers: Mrs Evans and, her daughter, (then) Mandy Evans.)

@ the Lord Street, Southport (then Lancashire, now Merseyside) studios:-

Throwback Thursday By Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

 Golden Girl

Yes!  It's Thursday!

This can, obvs., only mean one thing, yes you got it, it's time to throw it back!

Yep, I may be looking like a golden girl here, though all good shows surely have fantastic costumes.

Thanks to, once upon a time, Graham English Productions, I shall always have this: not even graduated from Stage School and successfully passed an audition to perhaps work abroad, (Japan, as it happens) as the Lead Singer and a Dancer!

At the time, I was also attending Skate School for the very famous West End hit Show Starlight Express.  (Thus, my interest, still to this day, in roller skating etc., however much this was preempted by my local YMCA roller disco days... ! -  Though nowadays, I enjoy it more for fitness fun as opposed to maybe appearing in a West End show.)

I chose to work and travel and I am very grateful to Graham English for choosing me and for the cultural experience that Japan showed me, one of which I shall never forget.

In my (not much of it, but,...) spare time I got to visit Tokyo, of course, travel on the Shinkansen, etc., but most importantly share my culture with the Japanese and taught English to locals (for free, naturally).

I also sang a song in Japanese.  This wasn't the costume for that (see following photograph).

When, as a just turned teen, or just before, I first started taking singing lessons I learnt to sing songs in Latin.

So, singing in another language, albeit characters and not letters: Japanese (and the Japanese has 3 alphabets including Chinese), seemed to come naturally.

For some and these days I also enjoy singing in Italian and recently I found some amazing songs by Brahms, also in German.

I take this opportunity to convey my many thanks, to Ms Valerie Watts, one of my first, ever, Singing Teachers.

Here's my pic. for This Throwback Thursday!

Throwback Thursday By Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

 My First Throwback!

Wow! So, This is my first Throwback Anything:

I decided to engage with the ongoing trend of throw  back anything to a said day:

So, today is Thursday and it seems as good a day as any to commence to throw it back!

Therefore, here I am, in all my glory, in only two of my costumes: the renowned Charleston and Can-Can costumes, and as the Lead Singer and Dancer of a troupe, in, no less than, Japan:-

First photo: second from the left (hands on my right knee pose), centre: me, myself and I (backstage Obvs.) and the third photo: third from the left (hands on my upper chest area, shall we say).

And, yes, in the first photo I have long hair and in the following two I have short.

Well, my employer forewarned me that sometimes when girls "go out there" to Japan, perhaps, due to the massive shock/change in culture they can go mad.  However, I simply decided to cut all my hair off and colour it - what of it!

I grew it back again!

Whilst there, I gave back: I taught some Japanese folk some English and, as well as teaching myself, I received their blessings: some Japanese folk taught me Japanese: "Irasshaimase!" etc. has Never left my vocabulary!

Peace!

Music And A Humanitarian Disaster - How Can We Help ?! (Please !) A Blog by Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

UPDATE!

At least this is now happening:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64609836

Wow!  What a contribution to music history!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64587070

R.I.P. Burt Bacharach.

He wrote many, many classic songs.

I marvel at his musical contributions also.   Many famous musicians have already poured in their respects.

However, (and I say this with,. all. due. respect.)

Meanwhile,...

in the world, the death toll from a natural disaster surpasses 20,000 no longer with us:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-64565412

Where and when is the "Band Aid" to raise funds for The Red Cross, Oxfam etc. going to happen ?!

Get on it musicians, etc. !

As, if I am to, as a (local) musician, busk for charity to fundraise, yet again, the process, via the Council is thus, nowadays:

go to the Council, ask for forms, wait, indefinitely it seems, to request days, that 'could' be available to fundraise, for charities, such as the aforementioned, for example.

World Tutu Day! A Blog by Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

Don't Mess With My Tutu! (aka toot toot)

Becos I Like It Like This!

Happy World Tutu Day!

Decided to make a prior blog relevant for A Day For Everything!

Did you know?! Originally a tutu meant trousers that were worn underneath the skirt/costume, like an underskirt, but in the form of trousers.

"Dancin' in the Street!" By Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

Once upon a time,...

I shall always remember dancing a dance routine to David Bowie and Mick Jagger's 'Dancin' in the Street' and although only about maybe age eleven then I can still recall some of the steps today!

This was prior to attending Stage School and at the time I as attending The King School of Dancing, Southport.

Mrs June Evans and Mandy Evans taught us, the latter teaching us the said dance in Modern.

I shall always remember all of my brilliant teachers.

At the end of 2022, due to an impromptu meeting, I got to 'model' for a photographer, who mostly focuses on street photography.

This was the first time we had ever met, but we started a conversation and I started doing some dancing in the street while he clicked away.

Fresh faced, there was no preparation for this photo sesh, however I've arranged these pics into a collage type presentation.

Enjoy!
