Thank you to Roper Hall and the Open Mic. Host, The Professor/Craig Almond for enabling my recent fundraiser for the charity CLIC Sargent.

Thankyou to Patrick Walsh and Andy Will I-Am Seed for assisting with the photography and fundraising.

Open Mic. Charity Gig

Thanks to The Ship And Giggles and Open Mic. Hosts Peter and Linda for supporting my recent solo charity gig initiative raising funds for CLIC Sargent.

CLIC Sargent is my charity of choice as an ongoing raising funds for charity project of mine.

Thanks to friends for attending and the support, for the loan of a guitar (when I realised after not needing to plug in my guitar any time soon after being attacked over a month back now whilst doing an occasional busk and going to that my guitar is in need of some TLC) and to Paul Billington for the photography.

Thanks to HWMusic Stores for mending my guitar.

Performance Artist Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

Sophie Cox-O’Shaughnessy

BA Hons. Theatre Practice

Lockdown 2020-21 supporting the NHS: rainbow coloured tassles

Biography

I trained at The Arts Educational Schools, London, (Diploma in Musical Theatre) and gained my Degree at  UCLan, Preston.

However, one of my first appearances on stage was in Show A Christmas Carol, where I was dressed up in a turkey orientated catsuit.  In another production, I was dancing in a routine on a see-saw, dressed up as a white poodle.  This was at the tender age of circa 6-8 when I started dancing ballet, modern (now street dance/jazz), tap, national, Greek and character and I enjoyed it so much, ever since then, I have been in to Performance Art.

I got my first professional job at the age of eleven performing as a Singer/Dancer in the Pantomime Aladdin, starring Tommy Trafford and as an adult I’ve performed as a Singer/Dancer in the Pantomime Cinderella starring the late Des O’Connor (E&B Productions).

As well as being the Lead Singer, I’ve danced in a troupe of six and another of three in Japan (Graham English productions, London).

I’ve toured the U.K.c. 2001, (in a "come-back tour") as a Backing Singer in the band Dr & The Medics., as a Medic.

Did you know ?!..

Yeh, not very rock 'n' roll, but I left the band,... (Dr. and The Medics).to focus on achieving my Degree !

As a Singer/Songwriter and a Dancer/Choreographer I’ve performed in many local Festivals such as BLAZE, Preston Tringe, K-STOCK and Harvest Preston and presented site-specific work, for example.

Whilst at University I got experience as a Radio Programme Producer and Co-Presenter for the S.U. radio Frequency FM and an award for completing in excess of 100 hrs serving the community.  Since then I’ve appeared on Preston FM 103.2 (Dave Cooper Show).

Whilst at University I also took a course to enable me to teach.  (LUDUS Dance Agency, Lancaster).

Testimonials

Singer/Songwriter/performance
(Gig at Lola's restaurant - Owner: Walaa Hassan):

Music Teacher:

"I've been taking Piano lessons with Sophie for 10 months, over that time Sophie has taken the time to understand and develop an appropriate learning plan and direction for me. The lessons have been really enjoyable and pushed me just enough for steady progression. I would thoroughly recommend Sophie as a tutor."

John (Adult learner) (02/2024)

"I have two girls... ...learning Piano and Singing. Both lessons are with Sophie. Olivia has been learning Piano with Sophie for just over a year and is enjoying the types of music she is learning. She is progressing towards her grade 2 at present.
Amelia has been learning singing for ten months now and enjoys the way Sophie starts her teaching at a basic level and increases the difficulty as they work through a song. Also she like how Sophie demonstrates the notes on the piano towards for the song.
Both girls always come out of a lesson smiling."

Steve and Jo (02/2024)

"Sophie has been teaching my 7 year old daughter singing and piano... ...for more than a year. I find her teaching methods to be excellent, she looks after my daughter with a perfectly balanced combination of firmness and love, which is so important at this age. Sophie has also provided me with excellent advice whenever I have asked her about music related questions, like what kind of piano to get for my daughter. This is what my 7 year old says about her: she is really good at piano 🎹 and she is very good at singing too !🎶she teaches me a lot about music 🎵 😁😁😆🎉🎵🎹🙏👏🏼"

Mayurika (02/2024)

Singing Teacher:

"Sophie has been teaching me to sing for about a year and a half now.  In this time I've improved quite a lot. I don't think i could have done it on my own.
Sophie is a excellent teacher, and it's all within a nice relaxed environment.
I would highly recommend Sophie to anyone wanting to learn to sing."

Ben (Adult learner) (10/2024)

"Sophie, you are Truly an Exceptional multi-talented teacher.
We are incredibly grateful to have found you to guide my child on his musical journey.  As a parent of an autistic child,  finding the right teacher—someone who is not only skilled in music but also empathetic, and adaptable is next to impossible.
From the very beginning,  you have demonstrated all of those qualities and more.
You took the time to understand my child's unique learning style, sensory needs, and communication preferences.  Each lesson is thoughtfully tailored to keep my child engaged and comfortable, while still gently encouraging growth.
What's especially meaningful to us is how you cared for him and respected my child as an individual.
Thanks to Sophie music has become more than just a hobby for my child, it's a source of self-expression and happiness.
We wholeheartedly recommend her to any family, especially those with neurodiverse children.  Her impact on our child's life has been truly profound.
Ever grateful for your patience/understanding a neuro-diverse child."

Mr and Mrs Pitani (08/2025)

"Sophie's singing lessons have always been very engaging and useful for the areas in which I have been looking to improve my voice.  Sophie has been an encouraging teacher, aware of my (vocal) range choosing a variety of appropriate songs to fit yet grow it at the same time.  The classes have given me the opportunity to explore the way I can use my voice in different songs to adapt to different genres of music and they have also provided me with a number of exercises including warm up and breathing exercises - crucial for vocal development.  Sophie has always been encouraging and friendly as a vocal teacher, offering accessible advice and knowledge to help advance me to the place I have wanted to be with my singing."

Bethany Smith, London

"I feel like I get enthusiastic support that enhances my self esteem and knowledge."

Skye Bagshaw, Chesterfield
