New Year Blog by Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy

Captain Tigress here! Just reporting in with, the facts that as a musician I have sung 'Born to be Wild' a few times (as part of the set as a Medic when I was in the band Dr &The Medics #JustSoYouKnow); my mother's mother's maiden name was Wildman and I temporarily took this name for my stage name (whilst performing the lead for a production at the stage school I studied at (The Arts Educational Schools London, Caryl Churchill playwright #JustSayin') this article has inspired my occasionally themed superhero blog for this yearly event.

Here's hoping we can all continue and face this new year 2022 and onwards with the courage of, for example, a tigress protecting her newborn.

As a mother myself I can vouch for knowing sometimes to be fierce is totally natural when it comes to protecting one's offspring.

This video is adorable and comes with a warning that it has an exceptional cuteness factor!

Preserving nature, action on climate change, is particularly prevalent in society worldwide nowadays.

This birth of an endangered species gives hope and joy. Here's to more of it!

Let's hope we can take courage with our actions with the threat that humanity is experiencing in recent years.

Wow! We're on the 2000 (Part 1. of 5.) show of Sugg's Kareoke programme. I guess I'm on the right, but Bev and I (as the Medics) were so slight, sorry Clive, it rhymes, and I'm, supposedly a singer/songwriter now!

(Yes, I know, it is around the Halloween timescale line, however, the spirit of Christmas never dies, and I have found as a child and an adult, the theme of this song is always so totally apt.)

I remember it vividly, although not picked up by the camera alot (in this clip) because I complemented Robbie Williams' Dad in the Green room: your voice sounds like velvet, I said. NB. I have yet to meet Robbie Williams, and his Angels song has always struck a chord with me.

I think, it's so amazing, it's 21 years ago this year.

Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year To All of my Loved Ones!

In a follow up post, it says it is Clive who's poorly, so I am wishing him a very speedy recovery. Shout out to Clive: Speedy recovery pal!

And, just to cheer you up, here's a picture of me in my Christmas jumper (that I have revived again this year), tho. obvs getting This years Christmas jumper(s) woz a must. (See following blog link.)

Who else, like me, the other day, didn't even realise it was Christmas Jumper Day when they decided to put their Christmas jumper on today then! (Okay, it's not as fetching an outfit as my costume in the show then, but hey, ho, ho, ho! (and another pun intended, bada boom bish bash bong! - that's me on the drums, also!).

Three weeks to Christmas 🎄 I was Soooo looking forwards to some de-stress, (espesh cos I got an eyesight test and such gorgeous glasses prescribed, recently. Tho., Only for reading, I can't claim all the glory), pardon the punn! to attending the last Christmas with Clive show, a potential reunion from singing and dancing as one of the Medics/Backing Singers from way back in 2000-2001 UK England tour, that I was most fortunate to partake of this popular star's journey, I am so now looking forwards to the rescheduled event, as unfortunately it was cancelled due to illness, though it doesn't state which member of the team is poorly.

Whoever is ill, I wish you a very speedy recovery.

Birthday Blog!

Aren't birthdays great!

Captain Birthday Girl here!

First of all, I would like to remember my Mum, I wouldn't be here without her, Brenda Mary Cox nee Rees, first marriage O'Shaughnessy (26/04/2021). She beat cancer the first time, in the UK, and valiantly declined to let it take away ones choices the second, in Australia.

Birthday Girl, available to hire, of course*, however celebratin' 'ones own birthday' would simply seem like 'pimp my birthday', and you don't have to go to a 'finishing school' to know good manners!

Anyhow, my message to you is to 'wind up your waist baby', at least on my behalf anyway.

Askin' for a friend: I have taken a fair few tumbles off me bike, like, 'owever, Touch all the beautiful wood, in the forest like, not yet from off of a horse, yet, just at the mo. currently restin' up like, Drs orders and all that... .

Been three weeks now and only just officially got the pass I'm all clear to "phase in working out, both singing and physical exercises".

I can only express my thanks to those informed, and who listen to "C'mon Eileen"!

We shall win the fight! (fits all circumstances, and it's better than most government attempts at baloney... .)

Santa Sophie Here!

******Just in! Newsflash! ******

Santa's so tight, he's putting Mrs Clause up for rent, this year!

Ho, ho, ho!

Only jokin'!

Anyway, in other news, recently an agency were struggling find a Santa Claus character and upon my suggestion of well, how about a female dress up and utilise a deep voice etc. the discussion created or a female Santa instead option and this was put to the agent's client, apparently. Thus I was requested to make an audition tape.

Because Actually Santa's Soooo busy this year, Really, he's sent Mrs Claus to do his yearly Grotto duties instead!

As I haven't written a blog for a little bit and to get into the Christmas spirit (everyone likes a good laugh, and here I go again, at my own expense, but hey, Ho! anything to remove the doom and gloom of covid civilisation, but not only this, an inspiration of mine, Abdu'l-Baha, a leader in the Baha'i faith, teaches this, to be happy, so as to make others happy, and this year, on my birthday, no less, this weekend, Bahá'ís remember the passing of Abdu'l-Baha from a 100 years ago, with his white beard, he even physically resembles Father Christmas! Anyway, for anyone interested, it is featured on This Morning LIVE this Sunday, 10.30am on BBC1. I, personally, will not be watching it, as I subscribe to none TV and anyway as a multi-instrumentalist I am always trying to practice an instrument, if I can, so I don't miss it, however, I digress, slightly) here's my video clip, enjoy!

Hello World I'm Your Cherry Bomb!

UPDATE

I've been stepping down, again, as an Artist, (by this, I mean, doing other jobs that I am also skilled in) to 'help the world' ** :

my name, Sophie, is associated with the Greeks, but Greece, I am ashamed of you:- how can you not help these people?!

Thankful that I have been granted opportunities to try to give something back to the hospitality industry, without which, some venues would not be able to provide work for musicians, artists, dancers etc., and have taken them, I am continuing to do so.

HOWEVER, Yes! I've done at least one gig since lockdown:

Blackpool you were wonderful - too busy, focusing on providing only covers, as I normally sing original songs also, as a Multi-Instrumentalist, I suggested sax., and the Bar Manager said Yes! to provide my own photos/media, you'll have to, as my Mum, God rest her soul, when I was a little girl, quite often said, "make do" with this little beauty:

Although, I did get 'heckled' by a Scouser asking for more Singer/Guitar 'stuff' (no surprise there, being heckled by a Scouser! or was it a scallywag? not sure, apologies, my northern brothers and sisters of music appreciation that is soul sounds itself!), my solo sax playing went down a treat with folks singing along to my Fugees cover and my solo jammin' sesh, although I only designated about 20 mins. to it being appreciated by all of the audience as a, more or less, family quiz: name that tune style! and impressed I was with alot of the audience input and participation.

A pleasure to play Blackpool, maybe next time I will get to visit the Pleasure Beach etc. also!

"Blog Off!"

For personal family reasons I haven't written a Blog since my well-wishers one to the Queen (April 21st 2021).

I will continue to take some time to respect this reason and as an Artist and for my own personal development I think it is important to do so.

It has been fun creating superhero characters and I hope this and other aspects to my blog-writing has cheered folks up during the unusual lifestyle lockdown has brought about.

However, this decision to 'take a break' until further notice is imperative to my soul.

For, this Blog isn't paid and art in every aspect deserves the recognition that today's entertainment charges.

The title is ttongue--in-cheek, #just saying.

Skater Girl

This recent sunny spell is wonderful. Therefore I opted to get my upgrade in skates* out and do what turned in to a two hour sesh.. It's a good job they come with one spare stopper, anyway.

Skater Girl did good though, no less, capturing this shot, me thinks:

It reminds me of the Japanese flag. However, it is a hot air balloon.

What impresses me most about this image is how personally I can relate to it:

I have both worked in Japan and as a songwriter written a song on this theme, the latter being something I was assigned to do as part of a music course at Preston College - no, someone else can't write it, you have to, Okay then!

Anyhow, super hero Skater Girl hasn't got a selfie/portrait photo for you.

Could not have planned this better even if I do say so myself, cue photograph.

Happy Mother's Day!

I've said it and I'll say it again.

Okay, so I'm a novice at the knitting lark. I'm not pretending to be anything else. "Knit one...", and 'Pearl's A Singer', yeh, I hope That's me, I know.

However okay, I created this bag, with a rainbow patterned strap way before the NHS dedication attribution I admit, and the wool 'decision', to some might look like a cellulitis appeal, 'butt' I like this wool, and I created This Bag.

Enuf said, I would like to share what made me laugh.

In times such as these, we all need one, for goodness sake.

Okay, so anyone familiar with the calendar in my pic. knows it's not this month, but, seriously, who cares, I've been buying these calendars for 2 yrs now (and I have realised I ought to have in my teens, but Hey Ho.) and I'm not racist 'or owt' as they say, here in Preston, but, March simply doesn't do it for me.

It was snowing when I was born so I've been told and I always enjoy the snow.

I just couldn't resist creating a little bit of artwork with it today.

At least one passer by, who happened to be a neighbour, appreciated it as they called out 'hiya', though what was also brilliant was that they only saw me taking a selfie (and couldn't see the artwork)!

Urgent question in parliament today (19/01/2021):

I think it will be interesting to see, but more importantly for it to be advertised and accessable, the publication as many MPs are requesting. As to artists now being required to cover an extra expense for visas and work permits to tour I'd also like to see the discussions, as promised, develop, though the emphasis seems to be on clarity about it and not further negotiations so that artists are not required to pay unfortunately. However, who knows. It's interesting to see how many MPs are supporting the need for the issue to be resolved though.
