Sophie Cox-O'Shaughnessy - Blogtastic ~ Speak Up, Art Counts

Speak Up - It Just Might Help and Change Society

Interestingly, I discovered an upcoming event actualising my point of view in regards to the arts and well being recently.

I'm cross referencing my blogs here (see below) thus the title of this article, and continuing with a former theme, Blogtastic.

A few years ago, 2014 to be exact, I was asked if I would like to express my opinion about the arts in the community.   This was, actually, at the venue where the event is taking place.  Co-incidence?  The film was by Lancashire County Council.  I wasn't paid for this and like all film work, my comment in the video is the 'highlight' of what I said, there is always editing.  Suffice to say I went on a little rant, if you like, about how I think that the community in general would really benefit from having art workshops, of all genres (performance art and visual art) available and that this, in my opinion, would contribute to making it a healthier society to be in; that there ought to be funding for such.  Perhaps someone did listen though.

As far as I can gather the event is organised by professionals who work in a mental asylum.  However, I don't think you have to have any mental issues to appreciate that expressing yourself and/or speaking up also with art can make you feel good.  The fact that these professionals are providing the event though, I think, goes towards validating , basically what I said, that the arts are therapeutic.  The venue has already facilitated lots of workshops that are artistic, and it seems maybe more so since I made that opinion in that film, though this is the first, as far as I know, that actually identifies the significance and recognises the usefulness of art/creativity and health.

See paragraph 9. in this blog of mine for the link to the video:-

Unfortunately, I am already busy on the day of said event.  However, anyone interested in practicing well-being and likes art and is available maybe you would like to attend.  It is also free, however you have to book a ticket, I think.
