Harris Open Exhibition
Okay, I recently revealed that one of my pieces that I submitted at the Harris Open Exhibition this year is connected with a upcoming festivity.
For all interested in celebrating it, one of my artwork pieces is titled 'Winter Solstice'. This can be viewed in one of the cabinets in the left hand room.
Fact file: St Thomas' Day was originally celebrated on the day of the winter solstice.

Hello! I think you’re the young lady I had the pleasure of meeting recently at the Harris Open preview? I’m the old bloke who was pouring out the drinks! Hope you don’t mind me writing but I was intrigued to see what your work was like. When I was there on Saturday, I noticed that Winter Solstice had been re-positioned and yes, the piece makes more sense now. It’s quite thought-provoking. Sorry if mistakes get made but my colleagues were under a bit of a strain leading up to the event. Anyway, good luck with your various creative ventures. Kind regards, Peter
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to receive (pleasant) feedback. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIt's alright - no (serious) harm done.
If it doesn't reach out and create some kind of pensiveness what sort of art is it?
[For all reading this Peter is Harris museum staff and was administering refreshments prior to the exhibition entrance. He is also an artist, and contributed to the exhibition in this role as well.]
Thankyou for the comment Peter Coombs.
Thanks, and you with yours (creative ventures).
ReplyDeleteThanks for those comments Sophie, they made me smile (and God knows that’s not an easy thing to do!) and to think about the motives for making “art”.
ReplyDeleteI liked your choice of verb, in that I was “administering” the refreshments, not just pouring them. Ha! I’m going to put that on my CV!
Regarding pensiveness though. The work I have in the Harris is quite shallow. Should we make things that are deeper and more about our relationship to the world around us? I made a lot of political, anti-war art when at art college but have stopped that now. But you have made me think, so thanks for that as it’s always good to question what we do.
Have a happy winter solstice.
Peter
